CRAIG ZUMBRUNNEN Specializing in the study of the Soviet Union and its handling of environmental problems, Dr. Craig ZumBrunnen has been recognized as an emeritus professor of geography at the University of Washington since 2014. Formerly serving the institution as a research associate, assistant, associate and full professor between 1975 and 2014, he previously served as an instructor and assistant professor at The Ohio State University. At the inception of his career in 1968 at the University of California Berkeley, he was a teaching and research assistant and a National Defense Foreign Language fellow. Dr. ZumBrunnen earned a BA in geology from the University of Minnesota and MS in geological sciences from the California Institute of Technology before completing his PhD at UC Berkeley in 1973. He has authored, co-authored and edited several books, including chapters in “A Geography of Europe,” and co-authored “The Soviet Iron and Steel Industry” in 1986. He co-edited “Urban Ecology: An International Perspective on the Interactions between Humans and Nature” in 2008. A consultant and editorial boardmember, he has been a member of Sigma Xi for over 45 years and served as its University of Washington chapter president.
