152 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine GOVERNMENT AND MILITARY Inspired by her family’s legacy in the military, Sgt. Karlene Brown earned an AA from Excelsior College prior to entering the United States Army. Serving to the rank of master sergeant (E-8) by 1989, she then became a senior logistics advisor in 2002, in which she excelled until 2010. Joining the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System at that time, she has been a JROTC military property specialist, having also briefly served as a property control officer for two years between 2010 and 2012. During her career, she was also the first woman facilitator for the Medal of Honor program. Alongside her primary endeavors, Sgt. Brown has been an active member of the Girl Scouts of the United States of America, the Women’s Veterans Association, the Clarksville-Montgomery Education Association, the National Education Association and Fueling the Dream, a nonprofit organization. Dedicated to her local community, she has also contributed to philanthropic efforts. Sgt. Brown attributes her success to her family and foundation of excellence. From a young age, she learned how to be accountable for her own success and happiness, and she has since carried that sense of responsibility throughout her personal and professional lives. Today, she finds the most rewarding aspect of her career to be watching her cadets find their own self-worth and self-esteem when they put on their uniforms. Looking toward the future, Sgt. Brown intends to continue her own education and receive a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in education. She aspires to be an advocate for better education for students, as well as their parents, who live and work in underserved areas. Likewise, she is hoping to begin writing a memoir alongside her daughter, Matea. To attest to her success, Sgt. Brown has won two Service Awards, six Army Commendation Awards, a Medal of Honor Award and several Commendation Awards from the U.S. Navy and Marines. She advises future professionals in the fields of military service and education to give back to others as much as others have given you, as well as to remain humble.
