162 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine GOVERNMENT AND MILITARY Serving as an eminent Long Beach councilwoman with an innate affinity for leadership for 12 fruitful years, Jan Hall Zolin has accrued multiple decades of expertise within the fields of transportation and government prior to her retirement in 1998. Before serving with the Long Beach City Council, Ms. Zolin was the first woman to be elected president of the Southern California Rapid Transit District. Subsequently, she went on to excel as a board member with the Californians for Transportation and as a director of the Southern California Department of Commerce. Post-retirement, Ms. Zolin has remained active with a plethora of organizations, including as chairwoman of the mobility advisory council for the Sacramento Regional Transit Agency, transportation advocate of the Greater Sacramento Area Chamber of Commerce and president of Musical Theater West, for whom she served two terms. Notably, the theater equity company performs four shows per season at the Carpenter Theatre, in which funds raised from the productions are utilized within the Long Beach Unified School District. In addition to these posts, Ms. Zolin has also been president of her local homeowner’s association. To attest to her success, Ms. Zolin was inducted into the Long Beach Community College Hall of Fame in 1984 and was most recently named to Women of Distinction in 2020. Previously, she was highlighted within the Long Beach Lifeguard Hall of Fame and was recognized as Executive of the Year by Executive Magazine. Notably, she was honored as one of the Most Powerful Women in Long Beach. From a formative age, Ms. Zolin enjoyed working with others and drifted toward leadership positions during her primary and secondary education. Matriculating with the University of California Berkeley on a full scholarship, she subsequently completed coursework and then relocated to Long Beach, where she earned an AA from Long Beach City College. She attributes her profound success to her willingness to take chances and understand all facets of an issue, as well as her ability to be the voice of the unheard in her local community.
