Since 1972, he has been licensed to practice medicine in Pakistan and in the state of Illinois. He also completed certification through the American Board of Surgery in 1976. Practicing as a surgeon since obtaining his certification, Dr. Arain has upheld his own private practice in Illinois since 1979, in which he helps patients who require surgical intervention. Additionally, he has contributed his time and expertise to the Chicago Medical School and the Avalon University School of Medicine as an associate clinical professor. Since 2005, he has excelled as the director of trauma services at Adventist Hinsdale Hospital, and since 2010, has been a member of the Illinois State Trauma Advisory Council. In his 45 years of experience in practicing medicine, Dr. Arain sat as a board member of the Institute of Infection Prevention and Control in Pakistan, was a consulting surgeon for Indus Hospital and was chairman of the board of trustees of the Badin Education and Welfare Trust in Pakistan. Additionally, he served as a visiting professor of surgery at the Islamabad Medical and Dental College. Dr. Arain is a noted fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a title he obtained in 1979, and maintains affiliation with the Association of Physicians of Pakistani Descent of North America, for whom he served as president in 1989. He attributes his success to a professor he had while attending medical school, who taught Dr. Arain the fundamentals of being a terrific surgeon and a well-rounded human being. Looking toward the future, Dr. Arain intends to ease into a well-deserved retirement, as well as conduct charitable work in his spare time. I nspired by the care and compassion of his own physicians growing up, Dr. Mohammed Murtaza Arain aspired to follow in the same path.
