During her tenure in public health and academia, Ms. Feiler also served on several boards and coalitions on local, statewide and federal levels in which she represented public health, and was a clinic coordinator for the New York City Health Department during the Swine Flu Program. Ms. Feiler holds a BA in health education from Hunter College, an MS in health and safety education from the University of Illinois and an MA in gerontology from Lynn University. She has also completed coursework in gerontology at Columbia University. Attributing her success to her passion for her work, she emphasizes that every day is a new adventure. Maintaining affiliation with the Florida Association of Professional Health Educators, Florida Public Health Association, American Public Health Association and New York State Federation of Public Health Educators, among other organizations, Ms. Feiler previously served the American Cancer Society as chairperson of their cancer control committee, and has subsequently been recognized by the Society as a lifetime member. To attest to her success, Ms. Feiler was bestowed with the Ann S. Loop Award for Outstanding Health Education, was named the 1993 Public Citizen of the Year by the National Association of Social Workers and was inducted into the Hunter College Hall of Fame in 1998. Later in her career, she was recognized by the United States Department of Defense’s U.S. Army Medical Research Command, and the South Florida Business Journal gave her the Ninth Annual Excellence in Healthcare Award. Looking toward the future, Ms. Feiler intends to continue consulting in her field. In her spare time, she enjoys black and white photography, as well as attending her local gym. Leveraging a love for public health, Ellen G. Feiler served the Broward County Health Department in Florida for 35 years as the director of health promotion and social marketing from 1980 until her retirement in 2015.
