Board certified in cardiovascular disease and clinical cardiac electrophysiology, he commenced his career in 1984. Since that time, he has served the Minneapolis VA Hospital, where he was the very first electrophysiologist. Subsequently, Dr. Gornick joined the Minneapolis Heart Institute at Abbott Northwestern Hospital, where he currently excels as a cardiac electrophysiologist and clinical cardiologist. Sitting on the Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation’s research committee since 2010, he also lends his expertise at the Minneapolis Heart Institute to the teaching of residents, physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants. He is also an associate professor of medicine at the University of Minnesota. Likewise, Dr. Gornick sits on a peer review panel for his hospital, in which he navigates through and solves issues regarding personnel problems among the hospital’s physicians. Throughout his career, Dr. Gornick has always worked hard in order to be a pioneering figure in the field of electrophysiology. With this sentiment, he has remained at the forefront of his practice through teaching and patient care. He is a former director of cardiac electrophysiology at the Minneapolis Heart Institute, where the program elevated from three physicians to 10 physicians – an achievement which he cites as a career highlight. Dr. Gornick is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology, as well as the Heart Rhythm Society and the American Medical Association. He is also a longstanding member of the American Heart Association, who appointed him as president of the Minnesota chapter in 1995. Looking toward the future, he intends to ease into retirement and witness the success of his children and grandchildren. Drawing upon more than 40 years of practiced excellence in medicine, Dr. Charles C. Gornick Jr. desired to be a physician from a formative age.
