Ltd., now known as the BHP Group. He was promoted to general manager transport, director, managing director and chief executive officer by 1991. During his tenure, he was also a member of the Australian Shipping Defense Council, Stevedoring Industry Consultative Council, Council of the Australian Maritime College, the Maritime Industry Council of Australia, deputy chairman of the Transport Industries Advisory Council and the AustraliaUnited States Coral Sea Commemorative Council. Subsequently, Mr. Prescott was joint head of the Australian Submarine Project Review. From 2000 to 2009, he was chairman of Australian Submarine Corporation, now known as ASC Pty Ltd. He was also a director of Newmont Mining Corporation, as well as chairman of QR Limited and Aurizon Limited, among other roles. Recognized as a resource industry executive and industrial relations manager with more than 60 years of experience, Mr. Prescott notably served as an advisor to the Minister for Defense in 2000. He is also a past president of the Institute of Public Affairs and a fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Alongside these ventures, he is chairman of the Prescott Family Foundation, in which he and his family support medical research, university education, the arts and public welfare services. Mr. Prescott is the co-author of “The Succession Pipeline: How to Get the Talent You Need When You Need It” from 2018, and a new book, “Pipeline to the Future: Succession and Performance Planning for Small Business.” To attest to his success, he was bestowed with honorary doctorates from Monash University and the University of New South Wales, as well as a Companion in the Order of Australia in 1996 and an Australian Centenary Medal in 2002. Prior to spearheading his career, John B. Prescott earned a BComm in industrial relations from the University of New South Wales in Australia. Most recently, he served as amember of the Australian Commonwealth Remuneration Tribunal between 2010 and 2016, which sets remuneration for federal ministers, other parliamentarians and holders of senior public positions.
