55 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine BUSINESS SERVICES, CONSULTING AND HUMAN RESOURCES Proficient in the sciences from an early age, Dr. John F. “Jack” Schlegel was encouraged to pursue a career in medicine. As he took on new opportunities, further opportunities arose – leading him to the success he has accrued today as a pharmacist and educator. In 1967, he earned a BS in pharmacy from the University of the Pacific, and shortly thereafter, received a PharmD from the University of Southern California School of Medicine in 1972. Completing a postdoctoral fellowship at the university’s medical school from 1972 to 1973, he later attained an MS in education from the University of Southern California in 1980. Now retired since 2012, Dr. Schlegel served as the noteworthy founder and owner of Schlegel & Associates for two decades. Prior to this endeavor, he excelled in executive-level positions with myriad medical associations, including chief executive officer of the American Pharmacists Association; the American Academy of Facial, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery; and the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy. Likewise, he spent eight years at the University of Southern California as chief pharmacist and director of pharmacy admissions, while also teaching at their School of Pharmacy. Post-retirement, Dr. Schlegel has flourished as a management consultant for nonprofit governance and leadership development. In addition, he was appointed to serve on the board of the New College of Florida Scholars College Foundation in 2019, a position he still holds today. Previously, he has been a frequent presenter in the field and was a national delegate at the White House Conference on Aging. Lending his expertise to creative works, he has contributed more than 100 articles to professional journals. In light of his outstanding undertakings, Dr. Schlegel was named a Distinguished Alumnus by the School of Pharmacy at the University of Southern California in 1985 and by the Pacific School of Pharmacy in 1987. He was also elected as a fellow of the American Society of Executives and as a lifetime member of Phi Delta Chi. Furthermore, he received honorary ScD degrees in pharmacy from both the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Long Island University.
