61 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine EDUCATION Drawing upon an innate desire to help others through activities she enjoyed, Dr. Susan Allport Schneider attended Kutztown University and earned a Bachelor of Science in art education in 1961. Matriculating in Temple University shortly thereafter, she received an MEd in fine arts in 1965 and an EdD in curriculum in 1996. After receiving her bachelor’s degree, Dr. Allport Schneider began serving as an art consultant for the Bethlehem Area School District in 1961, a position she held until 1970. Joining Kutztown University the same year, she excelled as a professor of art for 34 years prior to retiring in 2004. During her tenure at Kutztown, she chaired the art department between 2001 and 2004. Although her career has been abound with highlights, Dr. Allport Schneider is especially fond of reaching out to her community with art programs, noting that she thoroughly enjoyed bringing her students to the community to teach them how to prepare art demonstrations. As a result, her students learned significantly about the artistic process, indulge themselves in other art media and socialize with artists from all age groups. To pay tribute to her community, Dr. Allport Schneider has served as president of the Philipsburg Historical Foundation since 2010 and is a former member of the Mashannon chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution. She also briefly taught art at nursing homes in 2004. She maintained affiliation as a past vice president of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society, an international honor society promoting the professional and personal growth of women educators, and sat on the Pennsylvania board of the National Art Education for over 25 years. In recognition of her outstanding contributions to art education, Dr. Allport Schneider received several awards from the National Art Education Association in Reston, Virginia, including being named an Outstanding Art Educator in 1996 and an Outstanding Newsletter Editor in 1992 and 1993. Certified as an art teacher for kindergarten through 12th grade in the State of Pennsylvania, she was also selected for inclusion in the 63rd edition of Who’s Who in America in 2008.
