70 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine EDUCATION From a young age, Judy Sue Dixson desired to teach children in an educational setting. Upon receiving a BA in biology from California State University, Fresno in 1966, she began teaching third through fifth grade at the Fresno Unified School District. Maintaining her teaching position until her retirement in 2002, she concurrently served as a teacher at the Manchester Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) Elementary School in Fresno between 1983 and 2002. During her tenure, she also served the Fresno Unified School District as a mentor teacher, as well as a lead teacher for the California Science Implementation Network and the California Elementary Mathematics Initiative. Post-retirement, Ms. Dixson has excelled as a volunteer tutor since 2002, in which she prepares students for their academic classes outside of the formal classroom environment. Likewise, she has been a secretary and member of the prayer team for the New Covenant Community Church, where she formerly served as a deacon from 2013 to 2017. In the 1990s, she further flourished as a master teacher for the National Teacher Training Institute and as a member of the San Joaquin Valley Mathematics Project. Certified to teach in the state of California, Ms. Dixson has also demonstrated her expertise in the field through her contributions to various written works and educational materials. She has maintained affiliation with the California Retired Teachers Association and has been honored with inclusion in Who’s Who in American Education and Who’s Who of American Women. While her career has been filled with highlights, she especially enjoyed watching her students understand the material she was teaching, noting the enlightenment within their eyes. Outside of her primary endeavors, Ms. Dixson had formerly worked with women who were recently released from incarceration through The Lighthouse program. In addition, she found joy in crocheting bookmarks for her elementary school students. In her spare time, she is fond of dancing, quilting, knitting, sewing and traveling.
