Shifting her focus to the educational sector, Ms. McCombs was hired by the Paterson Public School District, where she has been teaching middle school education since 1999. During her tenure with the Paterson Public School District, Ms. McCombs has served as a science and mathematics teacher. Additionally, she received a scholarship during her professional endeavors to matriculate at William Paterson University, from whom she earned an MA in Educational Leadership in 2018. Alongside her vocational ventures, she has been involved in the GEAR UP federally grant-funded programs at Passaic County Community College and is the chair of the Trustee Board at Mount Olive Baptist Church in Hackensack, New Jersey. Ms. McCombs attributes her profound success to her determination, the support of her family and the encouragement of her daughter, Tiana, who inspires her to persevere in life. Throughout her teaching career, her goal has been to inspire young minds, provide students with greater opportunities, share knowledge and wisdom, and give back to her community. As a testament of her success, Ms. McCombs was the recipient of the Golden Apple Teacher Award from the Herald News resulting from a student’s essay submission and the Governor’s Teacher of the Year Award. A true advocate of service to others, she is a member of the National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Inc., Delta Nu Chapter and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Bergen County Alumnae Chapter. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, listening to music, and socializing with friends and family. Looking forward to the future, she intends to enter into an administrative role and later on ease into a well-deserved retirement. Raised in an affectionate family who valued education, Tonya Lynne McCombs desired to become an educator from a young age. A fascination with numbers and organization led her to pursue studies in the field of business. She achieved a BS in Management in 1988 from Morgan State University.
