96 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine EDUCATION Driven by a divine calling to enter the field of theological education, Dr. Jerry Horner served as an educator and academic administrator for several decades prior to his retirement. Most recently serving as the dean of the School of Theology at Beacon University in Columbus, Georgia, for seven years, Dr. Horner previously served as president of Bethesda University, dean of the School of Theology at Oral Roberts University, founding dean of the School of Divinity at Regent University, and chairman of the Department of Theology at Southwestern Baptist University. To prepare for his career, Dr. Horner pursued a formal education at Union University, receiving a Bachelor of Arts. He subsequently enrolled at the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and earned an MDiv and a PhD, the latter of which he earned in 1964. Civically involved as well, Dr. Horner volunteered as a Bible study teacher at the Men’s Christian Center. Named 1999 Christian of the Year by the International Third World Leaders Association, he cites a highlight of his career to be his role as the New Testament editor of “Spirit-filled Life Bible” by Thomas Nelson, which is recognized as a best-seller. DEAN OF THE SCHOOL OF THEOLOGY (RETIRED) Beacon University Columbus, GA Excelling in English and language arts from an early age, Janet Hovey Johnson desired to touch the lives of others in a positive manner. Drawing upon a BA from Augustana College from 1975 and an MA from South Dakota State University from 1981, Ms. Johnson commenced her career in 1975 as an instructor of English at Estelline High School – a position she held until 2003. Subsequently, she served as an English teacher and reading specialist at Watertown High School for the following four years before becoming a composition instructor at Mount Marty College, where she has dedicated her expertise since 2007. Concurrent to these roles, Ms. Johnson was a professional seminar cooperating teacher at South Dakota State University from 1994 to 2007. Demonstrating versatility in her field, she has authored local history books, including “History of Grace Lutheran Church,” and edited “History of Trinity Lutheran Church” and “History of Estelline United Church of Christ.” To attest to her success, Ms. Johnson received the Founder’s Award in Journalism from the South Dakota High School Press Association in 2004.
