152 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine HEALTH AND WELLNESS Robert B. Johnson has enjoyed a 50-year long career in hospital administration, culminating in his current roles as executive vice president and chief operating officer of the Detroit Medical Center in Michigan. Holding these roles since 1993, he has concurrently served as the chairman and chief executive officer of RBJ Enterprises LLC since 2012. Serving as an administrator of four major regional medical centers throughout the course of his career, he previously flourished as the executive director of the Grady Memorial Hospital of Atlanta from 1989 to 1993 and the president and chief executive officer of the Saint Louis Regional Medical Center from 1986 to 1989. Earlier, he was the executive director of the D.C. General Hospital from 1976 to 1986. At the inception of his career in 1971, he was an assistant director turned acting executive director at the Kings County Hospital Center in New York. Alongside his primary pursuits, Mr. Johnson is a former independent consultant, as well as a past consultant for Deloitte and Princeton Healthcare, Inc. He was also a loan reviewer for NIS Solutions, a governor’s liaison for the Michigan Department of Corrections for Prison Health Reform, and a senior advisor for Jackson Health System. From 2003 to 2004, he was the lead consultant for Doctor’s Community Healthcare. Prior to delving into his career, Mr. Johnson attended Tennessee State University, where he received a Bachelor of Science in 1963. Thereafter, he joined the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) and served in the Medical Service Corps for six years as captain. In 1971, he received a Master of Health Administration from the University of Michigan. Although his career has been filled with highlights, Mr. Johnson is especially proud of his stellar work as a hospital administrator, and credits his success to his passion for providing access to efficient medical care to patients. To remain abreast of developments in his field, he maintains affiliation with the American Hospital Association. Likewise, he has been featured among the 100 Black Men of Greater Detroit.
