153 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine HEALTH AND WELLNESS Retired from health care since 2012, Dr. Thomas J. Luttenegger is distinguished as a diagnostic radiologist who served Poudre Valley Hospital with University of Colorado Health beginning in 1999. A former diagnostic radiologist with the Naval Regional Medical Center in Oakland, California, for eight years, he served as head of diagnostic radiology and training between 1975 and 1979, during which time he also served in the United States Navy. Likewise, he became board certified in diagnostic radiology in 1975. While with Poudre Valley Hospital, Dr. Luttenegger took in six additional hospitals in Northern Colorado, Nebraska and Wyoming. Starting out with four radiologists, over the course of his tenure, the hospitals grew to 45 radiologists. Notably, they were one of the very first radiology groups to use digital radiologic techniques for diagnostic purposes. While overseeing facilities in Nebraska, Dr. Luttenegger notes that the regional hospitals covered 150 miles and offered 24-hour coverage, which was a tremendous success and help to patients in the area. Impressively, they were recognized several times as among the top radiology groups in the nation. To prepare for his career, Dr. Luttenegger pursued a formal education at Regis University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in chemistry in 1965. He went on to attend Purdue University and received a Master of Science in biochemistry in 1967. Subsequently, he obtained an MD from the University of Colorado in 1971. He was recognized as a fellow of the American College of Radiology in 2001 and, previously, was named a President’s Scholar of Regis University in 1964. Dr. Luttenegger maintains membership with the Colorado Medical Society, the Colorado Radiology Association, the Radiological Society of North America and the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. Civically engaged as well, Dr. Luttenegger was one of the founders of the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Fort Collins, Colorado, in 1981. Looking toward the future, he intends to continue enjoying his well-deserved retirement. Married to the late Mary Ellen Luttenegger for 54 years, he has two daughters, Kathleen and Christine, both with PhDs, and three grandchildren. THOMAS J.
