35 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine ARTS, MEDIA AND ENTERTAINMENT from Cortland State Teachers College in 1976, she went on to serve as an English and drama teacher for the New York City Board of Education. As her career progressed, she went on to become chair of the women’s history department and dean. She retired from academia in 2015 as a drama teacher. Alongside her primary vocational path, Ms. Vidal has also been a prolific theater and movie actress. She played a role in the film “The Fisherman’s Wife,” as well as in such theaters as Heights Players, Inc., in Brooklyn, New York, and the Gallery Players, also in Brooklyn. Notably, she is renowned for her performance in the acclaimed musical “In the Heights” in 2007, a musical drama written by famous actor and musical director Lin-Manuel Miranda, which was nominated for several Tony Awards. The recipient of an MS from Brooklyn College in 1981 as well, Ms. Vidal also pursued 30 credits’ worth of coursework at the New School for Social Research. She has spent her spare time advocating for those in her local community, including a nonprofit animal welfare organization titled the National Anti-Vivisection Society. Additionally, she is a member of the Washington, D.C., animal advocacy group, the Doris Day Animal League, as well as the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (more widely known as PETA). Lending her expertise further to Heights Players, Inc., she also pursued ventures as an arranger for theatrical performances for residents of homeless shelters from 1986 to 2003, where she also served as an executive board member. Ms. Vidal is a member of the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA), and Delta Psi Omega. She was honored with a Lifetime Membership Award by the Players Theater Co. in Brooklyn. Maureen Eris Vidal has been interested in the arts and entertainment industries from a young age.
