190 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine HEALTH AND WELLNESS Although initially desiring to become a restauranteur as a career path, Dr. Vithyalakshmi Selvaraj received a scholarship for medical school in light of her outstanding civic endeavors. Receiving a doctorate degree from Creighton University in 2010 with additional psychiatric training, she first served as a psychiatrist at the Omaha Veteran’s Hospital in Nebraska from 2010 to 2012. Currently, Dr. Selvaraj serves in dual roles as a psychiatrist with the Alegent Creighton Health Clinic since 2012 and as a chief medical officer with the Omaha Insomnia and Psychiatric Services since 2013. Additionally, she thrived as a professor at her alma mater for a period of time. Alongside her professional endeavors, Dr. Selvaraj is actively involved in her local community as a volunteer counselor for disaster survivors. Additionally, she has donated more than 2,000 meals to local shelters and assisted living facilities and has further provided free health care services to individuals. Through her outstanding work, she is especially proud of providing transcranial magnetic simulation (TMS) to patients, which was previously unavailable in her community. TMS is an alternative treatment option for patients with depression when medication has failed to alleviate their symptoms. A writer as well, Dr. Selvaraj was a publisher with Lippincott Williams & Wilkins for the first edition of “Psychopharmacology: 501Questions to Help You Pass the Boards” in 2012. To remain abreast of developments in the field, she has maintained affiliation with the Neuroscience Education Institute and the American Psychiatric Association. For her success in the field, she was named a Top Psychiatrist. Looking toward the future, Dr. Selvaraj intends to help more individuals with mental health concerns through her nonprofit organization, as well as help the underserved community through donating more meals. She notes that mental health care has greatly improved over the past 20 years.
