Likewise, Mr. Gordon is a global expert in dance instruction, having served as an artist-in-residence, consultant and lecturer at over 200 professional dance companies and cultural facilities. Further, he has receivedover 150 commissions for original art in choreography, painting, drawing and theatrical design and is invited for exhibitions worldwide for watercolor paintings, collage and mixedmedia, and handmade paper scrolls. Mr. Gordon earned the Japan Foundation Professional Fellowship, three Fulbright-Hays grants and a DFA from the Nishikawa School in Japan. He has contributed written works to Japan Modern Dance Quarterly, Choom Korea, Okura Lantern, Dance Scope, and Impressions, the journal of the Japanese Art Society of America. He was a columnist for Wisconsin Capital Times, Japan’s Asahi Evening News and the Korea Times. While attending college in his early years, Lonny Joseph Gordon contemplated on pursuing a career in the sciences. Studying petroleum engineering, he cultivated friendships with individuals in the fine arts program, thereby prompting him to complete a course in modern dance. Through this course and the mentorship of others, he was encouraged to focus on dance theater as his academic major. As such, he earned a BFA from the University of Texas in 1965 and an MFA in painting and choreography from the University of Wisconsin in 1967. Currently, Mr. Gordon excels as executive director and founder of GORDONDANCE 1968. For more than five decades, the business has been recognized extensively for its authenticity and unique approach to dance. Particularly, Mr. Gordon and GORDONDANCE 1968 are acclaimed for their blend of strength and delicacy in performance, as well as their emphasis on the human spirit in art. Alongside this endeavor, Mr. Gordon is the chief executive officer of Gordon Ranch 1902, a working ranch and fine art incubator that was founded by his grandfather in 1902.
