A Marquis Who's Who Magazine 131 G rowing up in the manufacturing industry under the influence of his father and grandfather, who founded the Rainbow Baking Company, George Alvin Finley III is an expert in wholesale distribution, maintenance repair and operational materials. The president and chief executive officer of CC Distributors in Corpus Christi, Texas, since 1967, he commenced his career in the automotive industry as a trainee for the Ford Motor Company in Dearborn, Michigan, in 1962. He later served as vice president of marketing and a lease manager for International Cars & Motor Ltd. in Oakland, California, between 1963 and 1965. While involved in the automotive industry, Mr. Finley assisted in the design, engineering, production and marketing of the Apollo sports car. He also owned the first Apollo roadster and coupe, which were produced between 1962 and 1964. After earning a BBA from Southern Methodist University in 1962, he completed postgraduate coursework through the Ford Motor Company in 1963. As a result of his growing experience, he served as president of and a guest instructor in the Cox School of Business at Southern Methodist University between 1986 and 1991. He also held several executive and board positions for entities such as the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, the University of Texas at Austin, and Del Mar College. Since 1994, Mr. Finley has sat on the board of directors of the National Association of Wholesaler-Distributors, having previously served as president of Texas Hardware Associations and chairman of the board of the Sandwich, Illinois, chapter of Impact Industries, Inc. An active member of Phi Delta Theta and Rotary International, he also holds membership with the State Bar of Texas and the American Supply Association. Recently Mr. Finley was able to sell his company after 50 years to people who were genuinely interested in maintaining the business. After learning that the buyers kept every single employee working, he is thrilled that the company has been thriving for over 100 years with many more to come.
