318 MILLENNIUM-SECOND EDITION RUDY E. SABBAGHA, MD MEDICAL EDUCATOR, OBSTETRICIAN, GYNECOLOGIST Northwestern University Lake Forest, IL I nterested in medicine from a young age, Dr. Rudy E. Sabbagha knew he wanted to become a physician at just 7 years old. A native of Lebanon, he attended the American University of Beirut, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in 1952 and a Doctor of Medicine in 1958. Soon thereafter, he served as a rotating intern at the American University of Beirut Hospital and worked as a senior physician at the Trans-Arabian Pipeline Company. In 1965, he immigrated to the United States, becoming a teaching fellow at the Magee Women’s Hospital, where he also completed his residency. In 1969, Dr. Sabbagha returned to Lebanon, where he was an obstetrician-gynecologist for the Trans-Arabian Pipeline Company. He later served the University of Pittsburgh as an assistant professor in the department of obstetrics, gynecology and reproductive sciences. From 1975 until reaching emeritus status in 1994, Dr. Sabbagha served as a professor at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. Following this appointment, he was a clinical professor in the Pritzker School of Medicine at the University of Chicago for five years. Since 1994, he has been the medical director of the Center of Obstetric/Gynecologic Ultrasound with Souma Diagnostics in Chicago. He has also served Northwestern Medicine as an obstetrician and gynecologist in the PrenticeWomen’s Hospital since 1975. A diplomate of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dr. Sabbagha has contributed articles to professional journals and was the editor of multiple publications regarding diagnostic ultrasounds. He has maintained affiliation with the Society for Reproductive Investigation, the American Gynecological and Obstetrical Society, the Central Association of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine. Notably, he is a fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. Dr. Sabbagha’s work was honored as one of the Best 250 Health Sciences Books by Doody’s Rating Service. He also received the Wyeth-Ayerst Public Recognition Award from the Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics and the William Heath Byford Outstanding Alumnus Award from Northwestern University.
