336 MILLENNIUM-SECOND EDITION W ith more than 35 years of industry experience, Philip Lawrence Sherrod is an artist situated in the heart of New York City whose work has been exhibited across the United States. Highly educated, he received a BS in zoology, a BA in painting, and a BA in art from Oklahoma State University, having also completed postgraduate coursework through The Art Students League, Jacques Seligmann & Company, and the Reece Memorial Museum at East Tennessee State University. Since the start of his career, Mr. Sherrod has displayed his artwork in permanent collections, one-man shows and group shows at venues such as the National Academy of Design, the Visual Arts League, Lincoln Center, Fordham University, the Smithsonian Institute, the Boston University Gallery, and the Michele and Donald D’Amour Museum of Fine Arts. In addition to his career in art, he is a prolific musician and poet who has written several poems and created numerous compositions. Mr. Sherrod, who was inspired to explore his talents in art, music and writing from an early age, felt intimately connected with the music of Beethoven and immediately discovered the path he wanted to take for the remainder of his life. Throughout his career, he has taught for a variety of schools and institutions, such as the Baird Community Center, the Art Students League, the National Academy of Design and the Morris County Art Association. In addition, he is the founder of Street Painters in New York City, an association he started in 1977. A fellow of the American Academy in Rome, Mr. Sherrod has been honored with multiple accolades in recognition of his contributions to art. The recipient of the International Prize Galileo Galilei from Salvatore Russo in 2017, he also received the Canaletto Prize Artistic Career Award, the International Prize Leonardo da Vinci, and the International Prize Michelangelo. Earlier in his career, he was presented with three Childe Hassam Purchase Awards and honored with assorted grants. Mr. Sherrod is a native of Pauls Valley, Oklahoma and the proud father of one child.
