A Marquis Who's Who Magazine 391 D r. Robert L. Waldron II became interested in medicine at a young age. When he was 5 years old, he was gifted a doctor’s bag with a stethoscope; his fascination with the field blossomed from there. A brilliant mind, he studied at Princeton University and earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1958. He subsequently attended the prestigious Harvard University in 1962, graduating with a Doctor of Medicine. Soon thereafter, he completed an internship at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston and a residency in radiology at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center in New York City. He commenced his career as an instructor in radiology at Columbia’s Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons. Dr. Waldron currently serves as a radiologist at Palmetto Health Richland Memorial Hospital and a professor of clinical radiology at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. He also participates in a locum tenens program, through which he travels across the country and acts as a stand-in for physicians who are temporarily away from their practices. Early in his career, served as a physician with the U.S. Peace Corps and U.S. Public Health Service in Panama and Chile during the revolts of the 1960s. A member of the board of directors of the American Cancer Society, Dr. Waldron has received a number of grants from the organization, as well as the James Picker Foundation, the National Research Council, the National Academy of Sciences and the National Cancer Institute. He was also elected a fellow of the American College of Radiology, which he considers one of the highlights of his career, and has contributed articles to professional journals. He has been featured in Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, Who’s Who in the South and Southwest, and Who’s Who in the World. ROBERT L.
