A Marquis Who's Who Magazine 317 S ince 1964 Carol Ann Russell has been serving as a special education teacher for the Paramus Board of Education, working with children with learning disabilities and other developmental disorders. Though she originally intended to pursue a career in art, she became acquainted with a special education professor who opened her eyes to the joy of teaching while she took graduate-level classes at William Paterson University. Having already earned a bachelor’s degree in general education from Rowan University, she subsequently received a master’s degree in special education in 1968. After obtaining hands-on experience in the field, Ms. Russell earned a Master of Education in handicapped teaching and a Master of Education in learning disabilities and teacher consultancy from William Paterson University in 1981. She commenced her career as a special education educator for first, fourth and sixth graders in Paramus, N.J. Later on in her career, she also served as a chaplain at Hackensack University Medical Center. A certified white light Reiki master, Ms. Russell returned to school in 2003, graduating from the College of St. Elizabeth with a master’s degree in theology. A member of the National Education Association and the New Jersey Education Association, Ms. Russell has been rewarded several times for her contributions to education, receiving numerous school project grants from the Paramus Chamber of Commerce. In 1980, she received the Governor’s Teacher Award, and she also earned the Staff Academic Scholarship Award from the Hackensack Medical and Dental Scholarship Committee in 2002. Ms. Russell has been a consultant in her field since 2000 and has served her community in a number of capacities, including as a member of the mayor’s advisory council for the handicapped, a volunteer at her local food pantry, and a parish worker at the Church of the Annunciation. She has been listed in several editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in the World, and Who’s Who of American Women.
