A Marquis Who's Who Magazine 133 A native of New York City, Patrick B. Flavin has always looked up to his father, who fromvery humble beginnings rose to prominence as chairman of The Singer Company. With such an extraordinary example as a personal role model, Mr. Flavin would settle for absolutely nothing less than the best in his own professional endeavors. He graduated from Colgate University in 1968 before completing an MBA at the University of Utah in 1971. Early in his career, he also completed four years of service with the U.S. Air Force, rising to the rank of captain before retiring from this role in 1972. After working as a partner with Flavin Beardsley & Co. for two years, Mr. Flavin joined Morgan Guaranty Trust Co. as an investment officer in 1973. Shortly thereafter, he was promoted to assistant vice president, which resulted in his relocation to Tokyo, Japan. His flexibility, diligence and professionalism subsequently earned him the title of vice president of the company, a role he proudly maintained from 1977 until 1982. Mr. Flavin credits joining Reich & Tang, Inc., as one of the greatest turning points in his career. During his 10 years with the business, it received an official listing as a top investment manager in America, while being assigned fourth place for the whole country. After leaving his position with Reich & Tang, Inc., Mr. Flavin served as the co-founder, president and chief investment officer of Flavin, Blake & Co. from 1992 until 2008. He served as a member of the board of directors of Culp, Inc., from 1999 to 2018 and continues to be involved with the Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts. Looking back, Mr. Flavin attributes his early success to those who gave him a chance to prove his worth, including George Austin, Joe Reich, Oscar Tang, and his father, Joseph B. Flavin.
