85 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine D r. Bradley R. Straatsma was inspired to enter medicine by his father, who was a prominent plastic surgeon. Earning an MD, cum laude, from Yale University, he interned at New Haven Hospital and completed a residency in ophthalmology at Columbia University before serving as an associate professor of surgery and ophthalmology at the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California Los Angeles in 1959. During this tenure, he served as chief of the Division of Ophthalmology, full professor, chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology, and director of the Jules Stein Eye Institute. After 50 years in the field, he retired in 2001. A contributor of over 550 articles to medical journals, Dr. Straatsma has been a member of numerous editorial boards and lectured at institutions worldwide. Presently, he serves as vice president of the board of trustees of the Africa Eye Foundation, director of the International Council of Ophthalmology Foundation, honorary life trustee of the International Council of Ophthalmology, and honorary president of the Barraquer Ophthalmology Center. He was also recognized as a Living Legend in Ophthalmology by the Indian Journal of Ophthalmology in 2018. PROFESSOR EMERITUS David Geffen School of Medicine, University of California Los Angeles Los Angeles, CA I nspired by a church history professor during his graduate studies, Dr. Richard M. Riss has been a professor of church history at Pillar College since 1990. His teaching matter involves revival movements in America, a subject about which he has written several books and articles, beginning in 1988. Prior to his current appointments, he was research associate to the chief economist at two brokerage firms and an instructor of church history at Christian Life College. Dr. Riss holds a BA from the University of Rochester, an MCS from Regent College, an MA from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, and an MPhil and PhD from Drew University. He maintains membership with the American Society of Church History, the Society of Christian Philosophers and the Society for Pentecostal Studies. Looking toward the future, he intends to continue presenting papers at national and international conferences while continuing to build upon an excellent reputation. Dr. Riss’ career highlights include presenting his papers at the University of Oxford. In his spare time, he enjoys playing the violin.
