160 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine LAW AND LAW ENFORCEMENT S heila Grabelle Pokras commenced her career as a secondary school teacher in Philadelphia and Newark, New Jersey, in 1957. She thereafter delved into the field of law, practicing privately in Long Beach, California, for eight years while also serving as city councilwoman in Lakewood. In 1978, she became a judge in the Long Beach Municipal Court and held the role for two years before serving as a judge for the Los Angeles Superior Court for 18 years. She retired in 1998. The recipient of a BS in education from Temple University and a JD, cum laude, from the Pepperdine School of Law, Ms. Pokras was admitted to practice law in California, as well as before the U.S. Supreme Court. Alongside her primary endeavors, she was a founding member of Women Lawyers of Long Beach. In recognition of her career achievements, Ms. Pokras received the Torch of Liberty Award from the B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation League, was honored by the National Conference for Community and Justice, and was named Judge of the Year by the Long Beach Bar Association.
