134 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine HEALTH AND WELLNESS During his career, Dr. Singer has conducted research in the etiology and treatment of Paget’s disease of bone, about which he penned a book in 1977. Additionally, he has conducted research on primary hyperparathyroidism, hypocalcaemia of malignancy, and the pathogenesis of hypocalcaemia due to magnesium deficiency. As a member of the board of trustees of the National Osteoporosis Foundation since 2017 and of the Fibrous Dysplasia Foundation board of directors since 2006, he has established himself as a prominent figure in medicine. Dr. Singer received the John Johnson Award from the Paget Foundation, the Constellation Award from the Fibrous Dysplasia Foundation and the William H. Oldendorf Lifetime Achievement Award from the West Los Angeles VA Medical Center. However, being elected president of the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research in 1990 was the most gratifying moment of his career. W ith more than 40 years of medical research and practice, Dr. Frederick R. Singer is an esteemed medical researcher and clinical professor of medicine who has been serving the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA since 1992. Alongside this appointment, he has been the director of the Skeletal Biology Laboratory at the John Wayne Cancer Institute since 1992. Prior to these endeavors, he was employed by the University of Southern California as a professor of medicine and orthopedic surgery. He began his career as an instructor of medicine at Harvard University and assistant professor of medicine at UCLA. To prepare for his career, Dr. Singer obtained a BS from the University of California, Berkeley and an MD from the University of California, San Francisco. He completed an internship at UCLA- affiliated hospitals, followed by two residencies at the West Los Angeles VA Medical Center. In addition to his primary responsibilities, he has been the director of the Endocrine Bone Disease Program at Providence Saint John’s Health Center since 1992.
