During his residency, he discovered his aptitude for cardiology and subsequently served as a fellow in cardiology at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Memphis for three years. Throughout his career, Dr. Chapel has practiced medicine across the nation, particularly in Colorado and Texas. After serving eight years in various primary care practices until 1993, he transitioned to the field of cardiology and became board certified in cardiovascular disease in 1997. He also holds certifications in internal medicine, geriatrics and nuclear cardiology. Among the notable highlights of his career, he cites receiving certification in advanced heart failure and transplant in 2014 to be a crowning achievement. Since 2002, Dr. Chapel has served as a cardiologist for Banner Health. Well known for working diligently toward his goals, he has also been published in the Journal of the American Chemical Society in 1979 and the New England Journal of Medicine in 2014. He also attributes his profound success to his many mentors, including Dr. Clyde Yancy from Northwestern University, Dr. Steve Mostow and Jay Sullivan, Dr. Chapel’s fellowship director. Dr. Chapel is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and member of the Medical Society of Nuclear Cardiology and American College of Physicians. Hopeful about the next generation of medical professionals, he advises prospective doctors to pursue their dreams and believe in themselves. Dr. Chapel was born on June 26, 1956 in Sterling, Colorado, to parents Gerald and Hilda Chapel. Married to his wife Vicki since 1983, he has two daughters, Kaitlyn and Kelsea. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family, skiing and gardening. D r. Harold L. Chapel developed an interest in medicine from a young age. Experiencing a childhood tragedy, he was inspired to help people through various struggles.
