Among her notable achievements, Ms. Molland is most proud of being a midwife and delivering babies in London, finding the experiences to be quite rewarding. Likewise, she has always been an outgoing person and enjoyed helping her students. Maintaining affiliation with the New York State Nurses Association and the Nurses Association of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, she also authored the paper “A History of Woman’s Hospital” in 1992. Ms. Molland received numerous certificates from various charitable organizations such as Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Wounded Warrior Project and the Special Olympics. However, the most gratifying aspect of her career has always been aiding women in their reproductive health, as well as supervising staff members in her nursing management positions. A lvarene M. Molland draws upon an early interest in nursing as a young girl growing up in the country of Jamaica. Earning a diploma from the University Hospital of the West Indies in 1956, she traveled to London, where she became a certified midwife at the Whittington and Pembury Hospitals two years later. After gaining prominence in her field, she attended Marymount Manhattan College, earning a Bachelor of Arts in 1975. Shortly thereafter, she received a Master of Arts from Columbia University in 1978. Certified in basic life support, Ms. Molland served St. Luke’s Hospital Center in New York for the entirety of her career. First serving as a staff nurse from 1966 to 1967, she advanced through the ranks to assistant head nurse, head nurse and clinical coordinator until 1995. From 1995 until her retirement in 2011, she was a nurse manager and nurse consultant in various settings. Alongside her primary appointments, she was also an adjunct lecturer and clinical instructor in the nursing department of the Borough of Manhattan Community College and ALVARENE M.
