250 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine D uring the1960s, Dr.Miguelangelo J. Perez-Cruetwitnessed laboratory experiences as a young boy, having been brought to Johns Hopkins University’s laboratories by his father, who was a researcher. Learning about identifying neurotransmitters, Dr. Perez-Cruet’s interest in science and research ignited, leading him to become interested in neurosciences, and later on, a neurosurgeon. A prolific inventor of spine instrumentation, Dr. Perez-Cruet holds several patents in minimally invasive spinal surgery and developed the BoneBac Press and BoneBac TLIF Fusion System. His company MI4Spine LLC holds multiple patents. Drawing upon a BA from Grinnell College, MS in chemistry from the University of South Florida and MD from Tufts University, Dr. Perez-Cruet completed an internship in surgical service and residency in neurosurgery at the Baylor College of Medicine. He served as an attending neurosurgeon and vice chairman in the U.S. Air Force at Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio, advancing to major, a spinal fellow at Rush University in Chicago, and an assistant professor and director of minimally invasive spine surgery at Rush University. He served at Providence Medical Center and now at William Beaumont Hospital as director of the spine fellowship program since 2004. He is also vice chairman and professor of neurosurgery at Oakland University WilliamBeaumont School of Medicine. Dr. Perez-Cruet has founded and is president of the Minimally Invasive Neurosurgical Society (MINS) since 2009, an organizationpromotingminimally invasive neurosurgery. Board certified in neurological surgery, he has also served in numerous committees, including the Council of State Neurosurgical Societies, where he is the delegate of Michigan. Dr. Perez-Cruet is past president of theMichigan Association of Neurological Surgeons. Earning the Patients’ Choice Award in 2014, he has been named among theBestDoctors inAmericaandaTopDoctorbyHourDetroitMagazine. He also received theTopSpineTechnologyAwardandaCompassionateDoctor Recognition Award. He has edited and written multiple textbooks specializing in minimally invasive spine surgery.
