349 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine A renowned figure in the field of sociology, Dr. Patrick Louis Cooney has amassed more than 40 years of professional excellence. At the inception of his career in 1975, he served as an assistant professor of sociology at the College of Mount Saint Vincent in the Bronx, New York, a role he held for two years. From there, he found success as a marketing executive for various publishing firms between 1980 and 1989. From there, Dr. Cooney decided to devote his time to writing on a full-time basis. Since then, he has become a coveted name in the industry. Publishing his first book in 1991, titled “Discovering the Mid-Atlantic: Historical Tours,” Dr. Cooney has authored several other prominent works, including “The Life and Times of the Prophet Vernon Johns: Father of the Civil Rights Movement” in 1998 and “The Role of Multiculturalism in Establishing a New Period of Separate but Equal Segregation in the United States: A Comparison of the Periods After and First and Second Civil Wars” in 1997. He also wrote “Seeing the United States as the South and the World Community of the North: Using the Approach of Martin Luther King Jr. to Invigorate the Next Civil Rights Movement” in 1994 and served as a co-editor of the book “Witness to Civil Rights History: The Essays and Autobiography of Henry W. Powell” in 2001. Dr. Cooney holds a Bachelor of Arts in sociology from Florida State University, and a Master of Arts and PhD in sociology from the University of Texas at Austin. He also earned a Master of Business Administration from Fordham University and served as a dissertation fellow at the Sweden-American Institute. Equally passionate about botany, he was certified in field botany by the New York Botanical Garden in 1953 and maintains affiliation as former chair of the field committee of the Torrey Botanical Club, where he holds a life membership and has developed websites dedicated to botany in the tri-state area. As a testament to his longevity and success in the field, Dr. Cooney received the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award in 2019. DR.
