90 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine EDUCATION I nterested in law from an early age, Prof. Daniel S. Guy recalls being attracted to the legal industry due to his desire to implement change and bring about justice in the world. Drawing upon a Bachelor of Arts from Ohio Wesleyan University, JD from Ohio Northern University, and Master of Laws and JSD from the University of Michigan, he commenced his career in 1956 as a sole practitioner in Canton, Ohio. From there, he served the State of Ohio as an assistant attorney general for one year and a congressional fellow in Washington, DC, for one year. Starting his tenure at the Ohio Northern University Pettit College of Law in 1959, Dr. Guy served as an assistant professor, associate professor, interim dean, dean and professor until attaining emeritus status in 1998. He cites his six-year term as dean of the Pettit College of Law to be a highlight of his career, citing that he contributed greatly to the college’s growth and development. Punctuating his roles at Ohio Northern, he also served as a professor at the University of North Dakota School of Law and was a former staff director of the crime prevention task force for the North Dakota Criminal Justice Committee. A prolific author and researcher, Dr. Guy wrote the book “State Highway Condemnation Procedures” in 1970 and has contributed articles to professional journals. Notably, he is a veteran of the U.S. Army Adjutant General’s Office and was accepted into the Lima Symphony Orchestra. Affiliated with the American Bar Association, Ohio State Bar Association and the American Judicature Society, Dr. Guy was inducted into the Order of the Coif upon graduating with a law degree. He is also a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Kiwanis International and the Masons. In light of his outstanding contributions to law, academia and the military, Dr. Guy earned the Army of Occupation Medal and the National Defense Service Medal from the U.S. Army. Impressively, he is the recipient of an honorary LLD from Ohio Northern University and was featured in the 72 nd edition of Who’s Who in America in 2019 and the fourth edition of Who’s Who in American Law in 1985.
