26 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine ARTS, MEDIA AND ENTERTAINMENT D iscovering her love for photography from an early age, Elaine Marie Baunhuber Fisher is an esteemed art educator, fine arts photographer and administrator who served the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth for 35 years. Beginning her tenure in 1973, she served as a chancellor professor of photography until attaining emerita status in 2008. During this time, she was also head of the photography department from 2002 to 2008. Alongside her primary career responsibilities, Ms. Fisher has served as president of WomenExplore since 2015 and is a past president of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Faculty Federation. The recipient of a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Carnegie Mellon University and Master of Science in design studies from Harvard University, Ms. Fisher has had over 150 exhibitions in over 100 galleries, museums and universities across 27 states between 1963 and 2013. She has had group exhibitions at the Belmont Gallery of Art, the Carpenter Center at Harvard University, Michigan State University and the Catskill Center for Photography, as well as one-women shows at the Light Gallery in New York and the University of Virginia. Ms. Fisher was inspired by a 20 th -centurymaster photography, Minor Martin White, as well as various artists. As an educator, she advises prospective teachers and photographers to never give up on their dreams. Even if they do not become famous in their field, with passion and diligence, they can have a rewarding life. To remain abreast of developments in her field, she maintained affiliation with the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Faculty Retirees Association for five years. Likewise, she was involved with the University of Massachusetts faculty senator for 15 years. As a testament to her success and longevity in the industry, Ms. Fisher was first named a Photovision N.E. Photographer in 1972 and received First Prize from the International Art Association in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, in 1999. In 2000, she was recognized as Scholar of the Year by the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. Honored as a Lifetime Achiever by Marquis Who’s Who in 2018, she was selected for inclusion in Who’s Who in America and Who’s Who of AmericanWomen.
