276 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine A n active feminist in the legal field, Margaret Genevieve Dean, Esq., is a renowned employments rights and labor lawyer in her own private practice. Founding her firm in 1980, she cites representing the clerical council as one of the most interesting cases of her career. Representing 13,000 women, she dealt with novel litigation never seen before and conducted research on sex-based discrimination. During this time, she was highly influenced by the legal prowess of Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Alongside her primary career responsibilities, Ms. Dean is a commentator for Station WELI, having formerly sat on the national insurance task force of the National Organization of Women and citizens’ advisory board of the Connecticut State Police and Sex Crimes Advisory Board. The founder of the New Haven chapter of the National Organization of Women in 1973, she also co-founded the Arizona Women’s Political Caucus the preceding year. A member of the Connecticut Bar Association and the North Carolina Association of Women Attorneys, she is a former member of the New Haven Bar Association. Drawing upon a Bachelor of Arts from Hunter College and JD from the University of Connecticut, Ms. Dean is board certified by the Dispute Resolution Board and a certified state court mediator. Serving as a mediator in various North Carolina courts prior to her retirement in 2013, she was certified to practice law by the North Carolina State Bar and the Connecticut Bar Association. Earlier in her career, Ms. Dean was an op-ed column writer with the NewHaven Register and women’s advisory panel member of Station WTNH-TV. In the formative stages of her profession, she was interested in health care and served as a research assistant in the Department of Pediatric Psychiatry at the Brooklyn Jewish Medical Center, later serving the Department of Internal Medicine at the Yale University Medical School. In recognition of her outstanding contributions to her field, Ms. Dean was highlighted in the first edition of Who’s Who of Emerging Leaders in America and the 15th and 16th editions of Who’s Who of American Women.
