98 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine 30 professional conferences and is a past chair and current committee member for the National African/Black Psychology Conference, held annually at Florida A&M. Her plans for the next five years include writing, lecturing, training, and providing spiritual development coaching. Dr. Jackson-Lowman was the recipient of Travel Awards from Florida A&M in 2013 and 2015 and received the Asa Hilliard Scholar Travel Award fromElderhostel, Inc., in 2011. In 2008, shewon the Outstanding Scholarship Award for Research from the Association of Black Psychologists. She was also a grantee of the Florida Humanities Council. Dr. Jackson-Lowman is a member of the North Florida chapter of the Association of Black Psychologists and is the immediate past president of the National Association of Black Psychologists. She serves as the co-chair of the Tallahassee Community Healing Coalition, which has sponsored Community Healing Days annually for the past eight years. A fter taking a psychology class in high school, Dr. Huberta Jackson-Lowman was intrigued by learning the science behind one’s mind. She received a BA in psychology and an MA in clinical- experimental psychology from Wichita State University in 1968 and 1971, respectively. In 1976, she obtained a PhD in clinical psychology from the University of Pittsburgh. From 1987 to 1991, Dr. Jackson-Lowman was the director/executive director of the Mayor’s Commission on Families, and from 1991 to 1995, she served as the co-director of the Institute for the Black Family at the University of Pittsburgh. Since 1996, Dr. Jackson-Lowman has taught psychology to graduate and undergraduate students at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University. She was chair of the department from 2006 to 2011. Dr. Jackson-Lowmanwrites and speaks on topics ranging from the psychology of Black women to psychological trauma in the lives of Black women and girls, the use of cultural strategies in the socialization of Black children, and the impact of serial forced displacement on the lives of Afrikan Americans.
