186 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine M r. Ewing is a notable voice in Colorado efforts to prevent suicide and treat mental illness. He has offered his services as an accounting professional to mental health groups and helped to establish suicide prevention resources in Colorado. The owner of the private accounting firm Jack R. Ewing, CPA from 1993 to 2007, he was awarded the 2006 Everyday Heroes and Heroines Award by the Colorado Society of CPAs. Now retired, he focuses on serving others with mental health disorders. Mr. Ewing earned a BS from the University of Missouri in 1969, where he served Alpha Phi Omega as president. In 1970, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force for four years serving as an emergency radio operator and auditor. After discharge, he joined Fox & Company for five years before becoming an audit manager with Erickson, Hunt & Spillman. The firm was renamed to Hunt, Spillman & Ewing in 1982, and Mr. Ewing became stockholder and owner until 1993, when he left to establish his private practice. Mr. Ewing has been diagnosed with Bipolar II disorder in 1984. He has continued to build a successful life after his battles with death. Realizing others endure the same condition, he joined the Suicide Resource Center of Larimer County, serving as president from 1998 to 2000. He has offered his time pro bono on mental health projects, including the Governor’s Citizen Panel for Suicide Prevention, the State of Colorado Mental Health Planning Council and the Larimer County Board of Mental Health, among others. Mr. Ewing was a co-founder of the Mental Health and Substance Abuse Partnership in Colorado and joined the Suicide Prevention Coalition of Colorado from 1993 to 1996. Since 1986, he has been giving lectures and writing on suicide prevention and mental illness. Aware that Bipolar II disorder is considered to be among the deadliest mental illnesses, he has used the condition’s “death knell” as an experience to teach resistance and tenacity to others. Mr. Ewing is a recipient of the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award.
