McDonald’s entry into the financial world came from the influence of his paternal relatives who owned land in Minnesota that was developed into two golf courses, a high school and track, and numerous homes. Mr. McDonald is now a retired finance and banking professional. He got his start at Yale University in 1958, where he graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts with high honors and high orations. Two years later, he obtained an MBA from Harvard University. Highly acclaimed for his diligence and finance acumen, Mr. McDonald served as the director, senior vice president and trustee at Space Center, Inc., from 1977 to 2004. From 1960 to 1977, he was vice president of First National Bank of Saint Paul. For his work ethic, Mr. McDonald has been the recipient of Bravo Awards from the St. Paul Area Chamber of Commerce and a number of recognitions for outstanding service from the Informal Club, which he calls the highlight of his career. He has been a member of the club since 1971. Mr. McDonald is known as a dedicated member of his community, and he holds membership with North Oaks Golf Club, North Oaks Home Owners’ Association, Colony Foundation, Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Gamma Delta. He also supports numerous charitable efforts, and he currently sits on the board of directors for Project Success, A Way to Grow, HMN Financial Inc., Sherbrooke Capital, the Minnesota Historical Society, the Yale Alumni Association of the Northwest and theMinnesota State Board of Investment. Additionally, Mr. McDonald is a trustee of the Amherst H. Wilder Foundation and serves as vice president to the Grotto Foundation. Mr.McDonaldcreditsDonaldandHarryMcDeeley for their support while at Space Center, as well as Philip Mason, Clarence Frame and Julian Baird for mentoring him at First National Bank. The advice that he can offer others starting out in finance is to be yourself. In his free time he enjoys exercising, gardening and traveling. MALCOLM W.
