246 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine D riven by a passion for science, Dr. Julian L. Seifter is a renowned nephrologist and educator. He attended Case Western Reserve University, where he earned a degree in chemistry, with honors, and then joined the Merchant Marines, where he traveled around the world as a seaman. Dr. Seifter later graduated with an MD from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 1975. He completed his training and chief residency in internal medicine at the Jacobi Medical Center and completed a fellowship in nephrology at Yale New Haven Hospital. In 1982, he joined the Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) and Harvard Medical School faculty. For his acclaimed work in his field, Dr. Seifter has been named a Top Doctor by Boston Magazine’s “Best of Boston” series for 14 consecutive years. He was the recipient of the Physician of the Year Award from the Nephrology Fellows of the BWH-Massachusetts General Hospital Program and the Partner’s Healthcare’s Outstanding Clinical Teacher Award. Dr. Seifter is the inaugural electee to the Academy at Harvard Medical School, where he was a course director for 25 years, and Associate Master and Senior Advisor of the Walter Bradford Cannon Academic Society. Some of Dr. Seifter’s numerous achievements during the course of his tenure include becoming the first incumbent of the James G. Haidas Distinguished Chair in Medicine at BWH in 2017. He was named a Marshall A. Wolf, MD, Master Clinician-Educator and has has received five faculty prizes, four Class Day awards and a special faculty award at Harvard. He also received the first BWH Physician’s Organization Award for Family and Patient-Centered Care in 2011 and the Distinguished Clinician Award in 2016, an honor bestowed upon the hospital’s most accomplished physicians. An acclaimed clinician, investigator, and educator, Dr. Seifter is also a prominent author, having written more than 150 papers and chapters and two textbooks in the area of physiology. He is the author of “After the Diagnosis: Transcending Chronic Illness” in 2010 and 2011 and was featured in the Science Times of The New York Times. JULIAN L.
