136 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine E llen C. Averill received a BS in 1966 and an MS in 1971, both from the University of Georgia. After gaining prominence in the field, she obtained an EdS degree from Columbus State University in 1994. She served as a science teacher and department chair at Kendrick High School in Columbus, Georgia, from 1980 until her retirement in 2004. She also taught at Decatur City Schools and the Governor’s Honors Program at Valdosta State College, and was a participant at Woodrow Wilson Biotechnical Institute. Additionally, Ms. Averill was a graduate laboratory and teaching assistant at the University of Georgia, as well as a research assistant at the Inhalation Toxicology Institute and the Savannah Science Museum. Ms. Averill is proudest of serving as president of the Georgia Science Teachers Association, who named her District Science Teacher of the Year in 1995. She was also named Outstanding Biology Teacher by the National Association of Biology Teachers in 1990. Outside of teaching, Ms. Averill is a passionate gardener. She is a certified master gardener and a member of the Chattahoochee Valley Daylily Society, chair of Christmas in the Garden and board of directors member of the Columbus Botanical Garden. SCIENCE EDUCATOR, DEPARTMENT CHAIR (RETIRED) Kendrick High School Cataula, GA D r. Wayne K. Aller grew up in a hardworking family, and so the sole option for his future was to work hard. He received a BA in physics from Northwest Nazarene University in 1955 and an MS in 1960 and PhD in 1964, both in psychology, from the University of Washington. From 1983 to 1987, Dr. Aller was the president of two computer companies, Learning Unlimited and CompuLearn. Teaching has been his second career focus from 1962 to 1982. He has taught at Indiana State University, Minnesota State University at Mankato, Pacific Lutheran University and the Beirut College for Women (now Lebanese American University). In 1966, Dr. Aller was the founder and conductor of the Beirut College Women’s Chorale. Dr. Aller is the author of multiple psychology books and won the LA Pearl Award in 2007. He is a member of the Western Psychological Association and the Society for Computers in Psychology, among other organizations. He is most proud of his penchant for music and the several scholarships he initiated to support the future of education at Northwest Nazarene University, Southern Nazarene University and the Lebanese American University Center for Women’s Studies.
