142 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine F orest Clyde Brooks always felt civil engineering was his calling. As a child, he was drawn to sandboxes and riverbanks. In high school, he doodled and sketched layouts of cities or homes. In 1969, he earned a BS in civil engineering from Seattle University and became a permanent civil engineer with the Corps. He joined the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Eureka, Montana, as a survey crew member the following year. Mr. Brooks retired in 2012 after serving 43 years with the Corps. Most recently, from 2000 to 2012, he was a GS-13 project manager on civil works projects in Alaska. Between 1969 and 2000, he worked at the Corps’ Seattle office in numerous roles, including hydraulic engineer, study manager assistant, study manager and project manager for civil works projects. In 1980, he became a certified Water Resources Planner at the Board of Engineers for Rivers and Harbors. In his retirement, Mr. Brooks participates with the athletic program at Immaculate Conception Academy in Post Falls, Idaho. Previously, he assisted the athletic programs at Seattle Preparatory High School. He has participated in U.S. Masters Swimming since 1985, with a number of national top 10 relay swims. Notably, he was inducted into both the Seattle Prep (1995) and Seattle University (2016) Athletic Halls of Fame. Looking back on his career, Mr. Brooks has received numerous accolades. However, he is most proud of receiving two Superior Civilian Service Awards from the Alaska Corps District (2012) and the Northwestern Division (2000), as well as the Bronze Order of the De Fleury Medal from the Army Engineer Association (2012). He thanks his wife Catherine for her unconditional love and support. Mr. Brooks is a member of Unlimiteds Unanimous, the Army Engineers Association, Steamship Historical Society of America, National Building Museum, United States Masters Swimmers, Veterans Memorial Museum, Alaska Veterans Museum and Motts Military Museum.
