258 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine I n James W. Beasley’s small northern Alabama town, only one circuit judge served in the entire county, who also happened to be a friend of his father. In Mr. Beasley’s senior year of high school, the circuit judge allowed him to go to the courtroom and sit at the table with other lawyers. Calling it a natural progression, Mr. Beasley received a BA from Davidson College in 1965 and an LLB from Harvard University in 1968. Prior to his admittance to practice in New York, Florida and the U.S. Supreme Court, Mr. Beasley served as a captain in the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1970, in which two years were spent in the Pentagon. In 1968, Mr. Beasley commenced his law career with Sullivan & Cromwell in New York City, and he now serves as a lawyer with his own firm, James W. Beasley Jr., P.A., in West Palm Beach, Florida. Over the years, Mr. Beasley has also served Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering in Washington, D.C.; Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft; Tew & Beasley LLP; and Beasley Kramer & Galardi, P.A. Mr. Beasley recalls numerous career highlights, which made him one of the most renowned young lawyers in his area. At 30 years old in Miami with a substantial client base, Mr. Beasley handled a large Ohio case involving securities that he worked on independently. His greatest memory was a case which landed its own chapter in the W&L Law Review and made national news among the legal press. Mr. Beasley sued another law firm upon them doing something improper; he was awarded $500,000 in compensatorydamages, and more than $1 million in imputative damages. From his various career achievements, Mr. Beasley owes much of his success to the mentors he has had since the circuit judge he knew in his youth. He says he specifically owes credit to John Rabin from Sullivan & Cromwell; John Pickering from Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering; and Arthur Mathews, who was the head of the SCC division for 10 years when Mr. Beasley arrived at Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering JAMES W.
