100 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine S ince commencing piano lessons at the age of 5 and first listening to her father’s bass baritone voice, Dr. Caia Kent McCullar has deeply loved music. Her parents encouraged her to explore her musical abilities and advance her education, and later, Dr. McCullar’s music director James Sheppard inspired her to further her involvement withinmusic, education and pedagogy. Now accomplished in her career, Dr. McCullar was notably named an Outstanding Young Woman in America by the American Norwegian Historical Association. Dr. McCullar received a Bachelor of Music Education from Baylor University, a Master of Music in music education from the University of Texas at Austin, and a PhD in fine arts, music education and vocal performance from Texas Tech University. She is voice certified by UT Austin and a certified teacher in all-level music, generic special education and early child through sixth grade regular content subjects. Since 2006, Dr. McCullar has served as a professor of music and program director of music education for the Music Education Division at Dallas Baptist University. Appointed to this role upon excellent former experience in teaching, Dr. McCullar previously served as a professor of church music education at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. She held additional roles at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and Wayland Baptist University, and commenced her career as a children’s choir director for churches in Central and West Texas and the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. The co-author of the 2004 work “Pass the TExES Music EC-12 Study Manual” with her husband, David McCullar, Dr. McCullar served as vice president of the Texas Music Educators Association’s College Division from 2008 to 2010. She currently volunteers at the Southmont Baptist Church and St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, and enjoys spending her free time reading and traveling. In five years’ time, Dr. McCullar hopes to join her husband in retirement and perhaps serve as an adjunct professor. Dr. McCullar is a member of the Texas Music Educators Association, Music Educators National Conference, Texas and American Choral Directors Associations and National Association of Teachers of Singing.
