270 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine SCIENCES, PHARMACEUTICALS AND BIOTECHNOLOGY A native of Moscow, Dr. Sergei Ivanovich Ipatov is a dual citizen of both Russia and the United States, and has researched extensively in both countries. Since 2013, he has served as a leading scientist at the V.I. Vernadsky Institute of Geochemistry and Analytical Chemistry with the Russian Academy of Sciences in Moscow, where he continues to study formation and evolution of the solar system. He observed asteroids and worked as a member of the international teamwhich searched for exoplanets. Notably, Asteroid 14360 was named in his honor by the International Astronomical Union in 2005, and he received the F.A. Bredikhin Prize in Astronomy from the Russian Academy of Sciences in 2019. Prior to his current role, Dr. Ipatovwas a researcher inQatar and at American universities and institutions of increasing prominence, including the Catholic University of America, the Carnegie Institution for Science in Washington, D.C., the University of Maryland and George Mason University. He also briefly served the Goddard Space Flight Center with NASA as a National Academy of Sciences senior research associate. Before relocating to the United States, Dr. Ipatov served the M.V. Keldysh Institute of Applied Mathematics with the Russian Academy of Sciences in such roles as probationer-investigator, junior scientist, scientist, senior scientist and lead scientist between 1975 and 2003. Alongside his primary career endeavors, Dr. Ipatov has contributed his expertise to creative works, having authored “Migration of Celestial Bodies in the Solar System” in 2000. He has also served as an editorial board member of Solar System Research since 2003. He has maintained membership with the American Astronomical Society, the American Geophysical Union, the Euro-Asian Astronomical Society and the European Astronomical Society, among other organizations.
