273 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine SCIENCES, PHARMACEUTICALS AND BIOTECHNOLOGY S upported by 40 years of experience in environmental research, Dr. Ashok Kumar Lumb received a PhD in organic chemistry from Punjab University in 1968. He was born in Jullunder City, Panjab, India, migrated to Canada in 1972, and worked as postdoctoral fellow at the Chemistry Department, Dalhousie University from 1973 to 1974. He was trained in clinical and environmental chemistry at V.G. Hospital, where he worked until 1979. In 1980, he relocated to Zambia, Africa, where he spent the following four years with the National Council for Scientific Research as a senior scientific officer and head of the Environmental Research Laboratories. There, he completed short-term assignments with the UN Development Program and UNESCO. In 1984, Dr. Lumb moved back to Canada, where he joined Environmental Canada as a chemist in the National Water Quality Laboratories. He was responsible for routine analysis and the development of new organo- analytical methods employed in water quality monitoring. He also served as a short-term consultant with the WHO during this timeframe. He assisted to establish Water Quality Laboratories at the Tropical Technology and Environmental Institute in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. In 1995, was a network science advisor for the Ecological Monitoring and Assessment Network of Environment Canada until retiring in 2012. Dr. Lumb was a scientific journal guest editor and published three special issues of the Journal of Environmental Monitoring and Assessment. He also published a fourth special issue of Environments, A Journal of Interdisciplinary Studies. As a guest editor, he was responsible for editing and coordinating with authors of over 75 papers. In 2011, he was appointed an associate editor of the Water Quality, Exposure and Health Journal. The Government of Zambia honored Dr. Lumb for expanding the scope of environmental laboratories to monitor pollution levels and representing Zambia at Man and Biosphere and UN International Water Supply and Sanitation Decade. He was affiliatedwith AmericanWaterWorks Association, Chemical Institute of Canada, Institute of Water and Environmental Management, and Canadian Environmental Sustainability Indices.
