Van Wagner saw early on that students were not learning how to read in their formative years. Earning a teaching certification in the State of Colorado, Ms. Van Wagner attended Metropolitan State University of Denver, graduating magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in early childhood education, with minors in language arts and reading, in 1991. Subsequently, she earned a Master of Education in curriculum and instruction from Lesley College four years later in 1995. Since 1991, Ms. Van Wagner has been an elementary school teacher for Denver Public Schools. A past member of the International Reading Association (now known as the International Literacy Association), the Colorado Association for Childhood Education and the Golden Key International Honour Society, she has received numerous accolades in recognition of her dedication to education. From 1987 to 1991, she was the recipient of the Colorado Scholars Award from the Metropolitan State University of Denver, and in 1991, the recipient of the Tuition Award from the Colorado Association for the Education of Young Children. Prior to taking on her teaching role, Ms. Van Wagner served in various positions for United Buckingham in Littleton, Colorado, from 1968 to 1979 and was an office manager for cardiologist Marvin S. Liggett in Denver from 1979 to 1981. Between 1981 and 1991, she was a trust accountant representative for the United Bank of Denver. Attending college while working full-time, she is proud of her endurance and tenacity to juggle both areas at once. A listee in the fourth edition of Who’s Who in American Education from 1993, Ms. Van Wagner enjoys teaching children who have enthusiasm for learning. She has tried throughout her career to make learning fun for all age groups and has often brought students on field trips for hands-on learning. Born on April 14, 1949 in Huron, Ohio, to parents Monroe Henry and Anita Belle (Richardson) Van Wagner, Ms. Van Wagner currently resides in Littleton, Colorado.
