STATHAM As an athlete in his youth, Harry M. Statham always possessed a passion for sports, particularly basketball. Excelling in coaching while he was a high school senior turned college student, he graduated from McKendree University with a BS in 1960 and from the University of Illinois with an MS in physical education in 1961. After coaching basketball for five years, he joined the faculty of McKendree University in 1966 and served as athletic director and head coach of men’s basketball for 52 years. He also taught as an associate professor of basketball theory. Impressively, Mr. Stathamwas a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) 75th-anniversary all-star team in 2012 and was recognized by the Lebanon City Council with a McKendree campus roadway named in his honor. The recipient of myriad accolades from the NAIA and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), he recently earned the NABC Golden Anniversary Award in 2019. Likewise, he was named Men’s Basketball Coach of the Year by the NAIA on 12 separate occasions, as well as Coach of the Year by the American Midwest Conference eight times. Drawing upon a bachelor’s degree in music teaching, supervising and English education fromMisericordia College, Joyce Saunders Stocker went on to achieve a master’s degree equivalency diploma from the Pennsylvania Department of Education. Notably, she accrued 40 years of career experience prior to her retirement in 1993 as a secondary school teacher in Exeter, Pennsylvania. Aligned with the Wyoming Area School District beginning in 1970, she taught music, choral and English composition, as well as chaired the language arts department. Earlier, she was a music and language teacher for the West Pittston School District from 1953 to 1960. Ms. Stocker is renowned for her contributions as the director of combined church choirs of all faiths for the Wyoming and West Wyoming Joint Centennial Choir. Since 1958, she has been an organist and choir director for the Wyoming United Methodist Church, where she has also remained a parishioner, worship committee chair and administrative board member. Ms. Stocker was honored with a citation from Pennsylvania Senator Musto, Pennsylvania Representative Mundy and President Clinton. She also earned a Medallion Award from Misericordia College, among other accolades. JOYCE SAUNDERS STOCKER
