140 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine FINANCE AND INSURANCE After graduating from Utah State University with a BS in business management and a minor in accounting in 1965, Tom R. Grimmett was hired by U.S. Steel. Initially not interested in the accounting industry, he soon found himself possessing an innate ability to solve difficult financial problems quite quickly, thus propelling him to the top of his field. Serving U.S. Steel for three years, he joined A.G. Edwards & Sons in 1968, remaining there for an additional two years. In 1970, he joined Texaco, Inc., and departed from the company in 1978. Throughout his early career, Mr. Grimmett navigated the fields of finance and accounting with ease and desired to spearhead his own company. In 1978, he founded Grimmett and Company, where he served as a president, accountant and trustee for 40 years. Semi-retired since 2018, he continues to serve the company on an as-needed basis. During his tenure, he has won key rulings in the ninth circuit court and set forth terms of trustee immunity and exemptions in bankruptcy. He has also won several lawsuits that went to the U.S. Supreme Court on the application of criminal law to bankruptcy filings. A former receiver for both state and federal courts, Mr. Grimmett was certified as an expert witness in accounting and taxation in family, state and federal courts. While his career has been filled with highlights, he cites recovering assets for clients to be the most rewarding. He also enjoyed working with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to develop a tip allocation program in Las Vegas. A registered representative of the New York Stock Exchange since 1969, Mr. Grimmett has also lent his expertise to the Intermountain Oil Marketers Association as a Nevada field representative and teacher for tax and investment seminars. He was also a trustee for the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Nevada and engaged in the Nevada Strategic Planning Committee for the Bankruptcy Courts of Nevada. To attest to his legacy, Mr. Grimmett is also featured in Who’s Who of Emerging Leaders in America and Who’s Who in the West. Millennium Magazine Featured Listee TOM R.
