To prepare for her career, Dr. Calderon became a diplomate of the pathology board at Boston University in 1970 and completed residency work at the renowned Heidelberg University and Georgetown University. Philanthropically involved as well, Dr. Calderon founded Calderon Christian Children’s Charity in an effort to help underserved children. In addition, she has been active with Catholic missionary work and various charities throughout the United States and the Philippines. Maintaining affiliation with the Philippine-American Association of Physicians and the College of American Pathologists, Dr. Calderon was inspired to enter the medical field by her father, who was a physician. Eventually desiring to delve into ultrasound pathology, she notes that the most rewarding aspect of her career has been witnessing the appreciation of her patients when she has helped them overcome their medical ailments. A family practitioner and ultrasound pathologist at her eponymously-named medical facility, Calderon Medical Clinic, Dr. Cecilia B. Calderon enjoys conducting studies in ultrasound pathology and is currently researching the negative effects of diagnostic ultrasound on the growth and development of fetuses. Noting that her research has led to her belief that diagnostic ultrasounds have contributed to the increase in autism in young children, Dr. Calderon has also been a pioneering figure in the use of ultrasound in the detection of malignancy in breast tissue. Prior to spearheading the Calderon Medical Clinic, Dr. Calderon served as an assistant professor of pathology at Drexel University’s Hahnemann Medical College in Philadelphia from 1973 to 1975, where she also directed the surgical pathology department. While teaching at Drexel, she pioneered the use of ultrasound technology to detect mammary tumors in collaboration with RCA Laboratories. Alongside hermedical pursuits, Dr. Calderon is a noteworthy composer and pianist who has been recognized and blessed by Pope Benedict XVI. Her music is CECILIA B.
