Recently, he left day-to-day management to his son James and set up Alimentotherapy Research & Development Enterprise, Inc., serving as general manager and co-owner. He produced his first product, the instant super Reishi mycelium drink, representing his efforts to continue getting the best from traditional Chinese medicine and nutrition to integrate with daily food. He served as an adjunct associate professor at DePaul University and an honorary president of the Tough Dragon Academy of Calligraphy and Painting in Harbin, China. Mr. Liu was a visiting associate professor at DePaul University, an international board member for Development Innovations and Networks in Switzerland, and deputy secretarygeneral of the Chinese Association for Global Ethnic Studies. He has been an honorary fellow of the Society of Applied Anthropology, having previously excelled as a Fulbright visiting professor at Oregon State University in Corvallis and deputy director and associate professor for the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. He commenced his career as a project officer and translator for the Ministry of Light Industry. Mr. Liu pursued a formal education at Heilongjuang University in Harbin, where he studied English language. He went on to study South Asian cultures at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and Peking University, receiving an MA in 1981. Since then, he has contributed to publications in China and the U.S., such as the Encyclopedia of China, the Chinese Lexicon, the NewDictionary of Social Sciences, the Dictionary of Ethnicity, the Encyclopedia of World Cultures, the Encyclopedia of Medical Anthropology and Llewellyn’s 2003 Herbal Almanac. Mr. Liu is a speaker at health conventions and seminars on such topics as Chinese culture, traditional Chinese medicine and alimentotherapy.
