195 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine HEALTH AND WELLNESS studying at Xavier University. Graduating with a BA in 1957, he went on to serve as a fifth grade teacher at East View Elementary School until 1959, a librarian and counselor at Staley Junior High School until 1965 and a social worker for the Americus School System in Georgia until 1967. During his tenures, he pursued an MS at Fort Valley State College, graduating in 1963. Between 1967 and 1978, Dr. Paschal served as a coordinator of student services at Augusta Technical College and subsequently excelled as the director of student affairs at Benedict College between 1978 and 1982. For the following seven years, he was a coordinator of facilities at the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education, and shortly thereafter, was a counselor for the Swainsboro High School until 1991. From 1991 to 1999, he was a counselor at Monroe High School, and from 2000 until his retirement in 2005, the head of the counseling program at Albany State University. Postretirement, he flourished as the owner and director of the Family Counseling Center in Atlanta until 2015, where he provided pro bono work for individuals unable to afford counseling services. The recipient of an EdD from the University of South Carolina, Dr. Paschal is a board member and past president of the National Alumni Association of Xavier University of Louisiana and previously served as Division 16 Lt. Governor of the Georgia District of Kiwanis. Currently, he is a member of Optimist International and the 100 Black Men of South Metro Atlanta, Inc. He also maintained affiliation with the National Education Association, American Counseling Association, Georgia Counseling Association and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. To attest to his success, Dr. Paschal received a Bronze Service Medal from the U.S. Army. Dr. James A. Paschal joined the United States Army in 1951 and served in the Korean War until his honorable discharge in 1953. Upon his military discharge, he desired to help others in need and became a volunteer for Caritas in New Orleans for the following four years while JAMES A.
