Drawing upon a BA in physics from Princeton University, Dr. Sharp also received a PhD in theoretical physics from the California Institute of Technology. Supported by a fellowship from the National Science Foundation, he has contributed over 250 articles to journals. He sat on the editorial board of the Journal of Mathematical Physics and the Journal Proceedings of the American Mathematical Society. He is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, American Physical Society, and Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics. Dr. Sharp received a 2001 Defense Programs Award of Excellence from the U.S. Department of Energy. Married to his wife Gloria since 1982, they share four children: Lisa, Michele, Brian and Michael. Their family dog, Jessie, passed away peacefully at the age of 20. A renowned physicist with more than 50 years of experience, Dr. David H. Sharp joined the Los Alamos National Laboratory in 1974 as a staff member. Escalating to lifetime appointment laboratory fellow in 1984, he also served the laboratory as a group leader of the Complex Systems Group in the Theoretical Division and as a senior scientific advisor in the Applied Physics Division between 2002 and 2004. From 2004 to 2005, he excelled as deputy chief scientific officer, and from 2006 to 2008, he was chief scientist of the Science Technology and Engineering Directorate. Retiring as a staff member in 2012, he continues to flourish as a guest scientist at the laboratory to this day. Dr. Sharp has also been a consultant to the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Stanford University since 2014 and to the Department of Ecology and Evolution at the University of Chicago since 2012. Additionally, he was a member of the industrial advisory board of the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications, has been an adjunct professor in applied mathematics and statistics at Stony DAVID H.
